10 Day Tibet Travel: #1 Adventure Everest Namtso Lake Tour

10-Day Tibet Travel to Yamdrok Lake, Gyantse, Shigatse, Mount Everest Base Camp, Namtso Lake Elephant Gate Hike Tour
Join our group tour, Tibet Travel Journey, to discover the stunning North Face Base Camp of Mount Everest and the magnificent Namtso Lake. According to feedback from previous travelers, this tour is the most preferred option among our Tibet Travel Packages Adventure.
Standard Tibet tours typically visit the eastern side of Namtso Lake at Tashidor, whereas we journey to the northern side from the hill near the Elephant Holy Gate. The name comes from a stone that resembles an elephant, and there's a small square gate or hole called the gateway to heaven, which is considered sacred. Although this route is lengthy, it is worthwhile as fewer travelers visit this area, allowing us to enjoy a more exclusive and scenic view of Namtso Lake!

The article’s image features Mrs. P and Mr. H from the west, captured during a golden sunset at Mount Everest Base Camp near Rongbuk Monastery, at an elevation of 5,200 meters, in November. They have awarded us five-star reviews.
Many of our travelers have chosen this Tibet tour, and we have published six articles about their journeys to Mount Everest Base Camp and Namtso Lake. The first group consisted of 13 European travelers on a Tibet tour in July. The second group included four travelers from Singapore traveling to Tibet, and the third group included four travelers from Hong Kong traveling to Tibet.

The fifth group consisted of a family of four Malaysians traveling in Tibet, including sons aged 5 and 8 — among the youngest to reach Mount Everest Base Camp through our Tibetan tour agency — and also featured the last group of two European travelers on a Tibet tour in April. We have received five-star Tibet tour reviews from all six groups, ranking this tour as a top choice for Tibet travel.
On this Tibet tour adventure, we will also explore the meditation caves of great masters with a hike to Mount Jomo Gangkar and Qongmu Lake. Meditation is a profound gift, practiced amid natural surroundings near lakes, snow-capped mountains, and the monasteries of eminent masters. This experience is an unparalleled gift to us, as the energy we encounter is immense.

Day6. Pelber / Mt. Everest Base Camp
Today marks the highlight of our journey, as our Tibet travel experience from Pelber to Mount Everest Base Camp offers breathtaking moments, beginning with the stunning Gawula Pass at 5,200 meters. The vistas here are magnificent as we behold the towering presence of five remarkable mountains, each exceeding 8,000 meters.

These giants include the famous Mount Everest, Mount Makalu, Mount Cho Oyu, Mount Lhotse, and Mount Shishapangma. Each peak possesses its distinct charm, and the sight of them set against the vast sky will surely leave us awestruck, fueling our passion for adventure and exploration.

After your lovely visit to Gawu La, you'll head to the vibrant town of Tashizom, which is the hometown of our manager, Tenzin! Overnight at the 4-star Gesar Hotel Deluxe Room in Shigatse City. (B)=breakfast
Day8. Shigatse / 5411M / Damxung
After breakfast, we will travel towards Takdruka town and then into the valley to see the view of Mount Jomo Gangkar, which reaches an elevation of 7048 meters.

At its base lies a sacred lake, which we call Qong Mu Lake (its waters change color with the seasons and weather). Mount Jomo Gangkar is a sacred mountain with a long history. Its name means “Goddess of Wisdom” in Tibetan, and it is one of the Twelve Protective Deities of the Tibetan Plateau.

Starting at the foot of the parking area, the hike takes about 1 hour uphill and 20-30 minutes downhill, for a total of roughly 1.5 hours. The highest point is approximately 5300 meters, where we can visit the meditation caves of great masters. It’s an ideal day for hiking amidst snow-capped mountains, lakes, and the sounds of singing birds.

This area is home to nomadic communities and dedicated farmers who have coexisted with nature for generations. Our journey will take us on a scenic drive over Shug La Pass, which reaches an impressive elevation of 5,411 meters, marking the highest point of our Tibet adventure.

Unlike typical tourist spots, Shug La Pass offers an authentic glimpse into high-altitude landscapes with snow-capped white mountains, verdant rivers, and the tranquil lives of farmers and nomads, set against vast grasslands, making it a highlight of the day.

Approximately a 20-minute drive from Yangpachen, a beautiful indoor and outdoor hot spring pool awaits our valued travelers. Visitors will enjoy relaxing in the hot spring. It is about 50 km to Damxung town, a drive of roughly 1 hour. We are pleased to recommend that travelers unwind in Tibet's cherished hot spring pools after a long trip to the EBC; it’s a perfect time to rest and refresh. The outdoor hot springs operate only during summer, as the weather gets colder from mid-October to mid-April.

Following this, we'll head to Damxung town for an overnight stay. The driving distance today is around 300 kilometers, which will take us about six hours. We aim to leave Shigatse between 9:00 and 10:00 am and expect to reach our hotel in Damxung between 3:00 and 4:00 pm.

Overnight at the Holy Goat Manor Hotel in Damxung town. (B)=breakfast
Day9. Namtso Lake Elephant Gate / Lhasa
Today is a long day as we try to appreciate the hidden beauty of Namtso Lake, and we must return to Lhasa for better accommodations at a lower altitude to rest. We recommend leaving the hotel early, around 6-7 a.m., with coffee and our lunch box, since dining options near Namtso Lake at Elephant Holy Gate are limited. It’s going to be quite the adventure, and we'll also encounter some bumpy roads!

The typical tourist visits the eastern side of Namtso Lake at Tashidor, whereas we journey to the northern side. Although this route is lengthy, it is worthwhile as fewer travelers visit this area, allowing us to enjoy a more exclusive and scenic view of Namtso Lake. After spending a memorable time at the lake and capturing photographs, we proceed to Damxung to enjoy lunch or dinner. Subsequently, we return to Lhasa for the night.

We will embark on a 60km scenic drive from Damxung town through expansive, breathtaking grasslands toward Namtso Lake, often called the “Heavenly Lake” for its stunning beauty and tranquil atmosphere.

Before we arrive at the lake, our journey will take us through the majestic Largen La Pass, which stands at an impressive altitude of 5,200 meters. This pass offers breathtaking panoramic views of Namtso Lake from a distance, allowing us to appreciate its vastness and ethereal charm before we get closer. Along the way, we will also pass wild animals called Na, or blue sheep.

From the hill near the Elephant Holy Gate, we can see a different view of Namtso Lake. The name comes from a stone that resembles an elephant, and there's a small square gate or hole called the gateway to heaven, which is considered sacred. This spot is perfect for connecting with nature and feeling part of everything around us, a reminder that we all originated from the stars. Let's embrace the natural world, become part of its beauty, and cherish the moment!

This day will be lengthy. We will travel 200 km from Damxung to the northern edge of Namtso Lake, then continue to Lhasa, for a total of 562km at an altitude of approximately 4,700 meters above sea level.

In Lhasa City, travelers can choose from three hotel options: the Gold Star Shambhala Palace, known for its Tibetan home ambiance; the 3-star Kyichu Hotel, featuring a garden restaurant; and the 4-star Shambhala Hotel, which offers an oxygen room. All accommodations include breakfast.
Day10. Tibet Travel Conclude
As your Tibet Travel journey ends, it’s time to bid farewell. We highly recommend booking late-afternoon flights or train tickets from Lhasa to other destinations in China or to Kathmandu, Nepal.
This allows you to enjoy a leisurely morning in Lhasa, where you can visit the bustling local market or take a scenic walk along historic Baker Street. Dedicating time to experience the city’s vibrant culture will significantly enhance your travel adventure.

As you prepare for your return trip, plan to arrive at the airport or train station at least two hours before departure. This ensures you have a comfortable buffer for check-in and any unforeseen delays. Thank you for traveling with us. We sincerely hope your journey in Tibet has been fantastic, and we wish you a safe and pleasant trip home!
