13 Day East South North Tibet


13 Day overland tour to 3 different directions in Tibet, East, South, and North is a special journey for Travelers who prefer to visit a few of the hidden beauties in Tibet. 

The journey will start from Lhasa to Eastern Tibet Nyingchi prefecture visiting Draksum lake, Lulang green region, view of Mount Namchak Barwa, Rawok Lake, Mitiu glacier, Siji Lhatso Lake, Woka Choelong hidden beauties valley, Woka Choelong monastery.

East South Tsetang prefecture visiting Sangri monastery, Samye monastery, Yumbulakang Palace, Tradruk temple, Yamdrok Lake.

Southern Shigatse prefecture, Samding nunnery, Karo la glacier, Gyantse Palkor chode monastery, Kumbum stupa, the fortress in Gyantse, Shalu Monastery, Tashilhunpo monastery, Nyemo valley.

Day 01: Pick Up From Airport Or Train Station And Transfer To Hotel In Lhasa [3,700m]

Upon your arrival at Lhasa airport or train station, you will be greeted by your Tibetan guide, from the airport to Lhasa city is 60km, around an hour drive will take you to the holy city Lhasa. Driving along the Brahmaputra river and Lhasa river. If you take the train to Lhasa, normally you will arrive in the late afternoon or evening, 20 minutes drive will take you to your hotel in Lhasa city. Check into the hotel, have a good rest to acclimatize to the high altitude.

Day 02: Lhasa City Sightseeing [3,700m], Visit Jokhang Temple And Sera Monastery(B)

After breakfast, you will visit the Jokhang, the holiest Buddhist temple in all of the Himalayas. Each day, many thousands of Buddhist pilgrims come here to worship. Many have traveled well over a thousand kilometers by foot to see this 1400-year-old temple. After lunch, you will visit the 600-year-old huge monastery complex of Sera. While at Sera, you watch the monks engage in entertaining Buddhist philosophical debates. In the evening, you will have free time to wander around the Old Town on your own.

Day 03: Lhasa City Sightseeing [3,700m], Visit Drepung Monastery, Potala Palace (B)

Today you will be arranged to visit Drepung, Potala Palace. Drepung monastery was once the world's largest monastery in the history with 10,000 monks hailed from different monasteries all over Tibet. It is located on a small mountain so we can see the view of Lhasa city below.  After Drepung, visit the massive 1000 room Potala Palace, the most iconic building in Tibet. You will work your way up the steps of the Potala and then go through the most important rooms in this famous UNESCO site. After lunch, you will explore another one of Tibet’s important monasteries.

Day 04: Lhasa [3,700m] / Nyingchi Bayi [2,980m] ,401 KM, 7hrs (B)

Drive from Lhasa towards East to Nyingchi Bayi prefecture via visiting Ganden monastery, which is known as the first Gelukpa school monastery in Tibet.

After visiting the Ganden monastery, drive to Rutok hot spring and meditation cave of Guru Rinpoche near the road. 

Mila pass ( 4900 M ) which lies near the Kongpo Gyamda town. The duration of Lhasa to Kongpo Gyamda town is 270 km

Have lunch at Gyamda town and drive to Nyingchi Bayi prefecture for the night. 

The route is through the newly built highway from Lhasa to Nyingchi Bayi.

Day 05: Nyingchi Bayi [2,980m] / Lulang [3,700m] / Pomi [2,720m],260 KM, 5-6hrs (B)

Today Travelers will depart from Nyingchi prefecture city Bayi to Pomi town via visiting Lulang greeny town. 

Drive around 40 km to Serkyam la pass ( 4900M) from the summit of the pass, Travelers can enjoy a stunning view of Mount Namchak Barwa 7,7 82 meters ( 25, 531 ft) 28th highest mountain in our world.  One of the most beautiful mountains in Tibet.

After Serkyam la passes, Travelers will arrive in Lulang town, known as the small Swiss in Tibet because of its green nature with snow mountains. 

Travelers can enjoy the route from Lulang to Pomi with green forest and Yarlung Tsangpo river.

Day 06: Pomi [2,720m] / Rawok Lake [3,800m] / Mitu Glacier / Pomi [2,720m],260KM, 5hrs (B)

After breakfast from the Tibetan family hotel, drive to Rawok Lake or Rawok Lake, which is known as the largest lake in Eastern Tibet. 

Rawok Lake is one of the stunning Lakes in Tibet surrounded by green nature and mountains. 

The driving duration from Pomi to Rawok Lake is around 130 km 

On the way back to Pomi, visit Mitu Glacier, which lies around 15 km from the road. 

After driving back to the Tibetan family hotel, located 20 km from Pomi town.

Day 07: Pomi [2,720m] / Lulang [3,700m] / Nyingchi Bayi [2,980m] / Draksum Lake [3,700m],400KM, 8hrs (B)

Drive from Pomi, also known as Bomi to Lulang green region town via enjoying the beautiful forest and mountain nature landscape with Yarlung Tsangpo river nearby.

From the Serkyam la pass ( 4800M ) enjoy the final view of Mount Namchak Barwa.  Serkyam la pass is also known as Bonri, which is a spiritual mountain for the Bon religion in Tibet. Many local Tibetans will do kora and prostration around the mountain.

Arriving at Nyingchi town, which is around 10 km from the Nyingchi Bayi prefecture.

Day 08: Draksum Lake [3,700m] / Siji Lhatso Lake [4,600m] / Woka Choelong Valley / Sangri / Tsetang [3,100m], 400KM, 7 Hrs (B)

Enjoy the sunrise at the Draksum Lake and drive to Kongpo Gyamda town, visit Siji Lhatso Lake, which is one of the hidden Lakes in Tibet where only a few Travelers will travel.

From Siji Lhatso Lake, turn towards east south to Woka Choelong Valley, one of the hidden beauties of Tibet. Visit Woka Choelong monastery, where Tibetan master Je Tsongkhapa has done Dharma practice via offering mandala from stone and prostrating more than 100 thousand times on hard rock to purify the karma. 

From Woka Choelong monastery, drive to Sangri monastery, which is also one of the important monasteries in Tibet during one of the greatest Tibetan Yogini Machik Lapdron's time.

Drive to Tsetang for the night by enjoying the beautiful landscape and the Yarlung Tsangpo river.

Day 09: Tsetang / Samye [4,200m], 50 KM, 1hrs (B)

After breakfast, drive 15 km to Yarlung valley via visiting Yumbulakang Palace. On the way back visit Tradruk Temple, which is the first Temple in Tibet, built before the Jokhang Temple. 

After driving 50 km to Samye monastery, you will visit Chimpuk meditation caves and Samye monastery, which is the first monastery in Tibet, built during the 8th century by King Trisong Deutsen and Maha Guru Padmasambhava.

Day 10: Samye / Yamdrok Lake [4,441m] / Gyantse [3,980m] / Shigatse [3,840m], 360KM, 7hrs (B)

Morning drive up to Kampala pass [4794m], you will have a glimpse of Yamdrok-Tso and spectacular views of Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar in the distance, the turquoise-colored Lake Yamdrok Yutso is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, visiting Samding nunnery near the Nagartse town.

The unforgettable vista of the pincer-shaped turquoise water of the lake and the amazing spectacle of Mt. Nyenchen  Khangsar glacier from Karo la pass is wonders of the day.

We visit the Ralung monastery, which was once the biggest Buddhist college in Tibet and home of many great Tibetan Yogis from the Drukpa Kagyu sect including Jetsun Ling Repa, Jetsun Tsangpa Gyare, Jetsun Tsang Nyon, Jetsun U Nyon, Jetsun Drukpa Kunley. They are no tourists and sometimes not even locals so Ralung monastery is one of the most peaceful monasteries with beautiful landscape.

Then along the Friendship southern Hwy drive to Gyantse, visit the famous stupa - Gyantse Kumbum, one of the most stunning architectural wonders in Tibet. Late afternoon drive to Shigatse via visiting Shalu monastery along the way, which has one of the best wall painting in Tibet.

Day 11: Shigatse / Namtso Lake [4,700m], 420Km, Around 7-8hours Drive (B)

After breakfast then drive to Nyemo valley to see nomads and farmers and nature, No tourists (this will be a highlight for the day so you can spend lots of time and then drive to Yangpachen hot spring pool and you can decide to go in or not by paying entrance fees directly at there and drive to Damxung, on the way you will see Mt. Tanggu-la (7500m) and drive through grasslands to Namtso lake, “Heavenly Lake.” Before getting to the lake we will drive through the (Largen la pass (5200m) to see the view of the lake from far and then still drive about 35km and we will reach the Lake. On the way, we will see Nomads around Namtso lake and stay overnight at a lake for sunset, sunrise, and stars at the night.

Day 12: Namtso / Lhasa [3,595m], 250Km, 4hours Drive

Enjoying the sunrise at Namtso Lake, walking a little bit near the lakeside,  afternoon driving back to Lhasa.

Happy nomad's family dwelled their cozy yak wool tent on the grassy pastures and some close to the road are visitable for having a new experience, before reaching Lhasa the fertile valleys are nice looking with villages and their orthogonal fields.

Day 13. Lhasa Airport / Train Station Dropping Off

Morning Lhasa airport or train station dropping off, the time comes to say your farewells to your guide and driver, end the trip.
