Our 7 Day overland tour from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake Gyantse town, Shigatse and towards Northern grassland to Namtso Lake is perfect for those who have a short time but wanting to explore both farming and nomadic culture with beautiful nature and monasteries.

This journey will start by exploring the holy city of Lhasa. You will see the main Buddhist sites in the city including Jokhang Temple, Ramoche Temple, Sera Monastery and the Potala Palace. Next, you will make the scenic drive to Shigatse going via Yamdrok Lake, Karo La Glacier, and Gyantse Kumbum Stupa. From Shigatse, you will take a drive towards Nyemo valley to see more nature and less tourist, later travel to Namtso lake to see the sunrise, sunset, and stars at the night.

On the morning of the 7th day, you will be transferred to the Lhasa airport or train station. This will be an amazing journey that will allow you to see many of the best places Tibet has to offer!

Day 01: Pick Up From Airport Or Train Station And Transfer To Hotel


Upon your arrival at Lhasa airport or train station, you will be greeted by your Tibetan guide, from the airport to Lhasa city is 60km, around an hour drive will take you to the holy city Lhasa. Driving along the Brahmaputra river and Lhasa river. If you take the train to Lhasa, normally you will arrive in the late afternoon or evening, 20 minutes drive will take you to your hotel in Lhasa city. Check into the hotel, have a good rest to acclimatize the high altitude.

Day 01: Pick Up From Airport Or Train Station And Transfer To Hotel

Day 02: Lhasa City Sightseeing, Visit Jokhang Temple And Sera Monastery(B)


After breakfast, you will visit the Jokhang, the holiest Buddhist temple in all of the Himalaya. Each day, many thousands of Buddhist pilgrims come here to worship. Many have traveled well over a thousand kilometers by foot to see this 1400-year-old temple. After lunch, you will visit the 600-year-old huge monastery complex of Sera. While at Sera, you watch the monks engage in entertaining Buddhist philosophical debates. In the evening, you will have free time to wander around the Old Town on your own.

Day 02: Lhasa City Sightseeing, Visit Jokhang Temple And Sera Monastery(B)

Day 03: Lhasa City Sightseeing, Visit Drepung Monastery, Potala Palace (B)


Today you will be arranged to visit Drepung, Potala Palace. Drepung monastery was once the world largest monastery in the history with 10,000 monks hailed from different monasteries all over Tibet. It is located on a small mountain so we can see the view of Lhasa city below.  After Drepung visiting the massive 1000 room Potala Palace, the most iconic building in Tibet. You will work your way up the steps of the Potala and then go through the most important rooms in this famous UNESCO site. After lunch, you will explore another one of Tibet’s important monasteries.

Day 03: Lhasa City Sightseeing, Visit Drepung Monastery, Potala Palace (B)

Day 04: Lhasa / Yamdrok Lake [4,441m] / Gyantse [3,980m] / Shigatse [3,840m], 360KM, 7hrs (B)


Morning drive up to Kampala pass [4794m], you will have a glimpse of Yamdrok-Tso and spectacular views of Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar in the distance, the turquoise coloured Lake Yamdrok Yutso is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, the unforgettable vista of pincer-shaped turquoise water of the lake and amazing spectacle of Mt. Nyenchen  Khangsar glacier from Karo la pass is wonders of the day.

We visit the Ralung monastery, which was once the biggest Buddhist college in Tibet and home of many great Tibetan Yogis from Drukpa Kagyu sect including Jetsun Ling Repa, Jetsun Tsangpa Gyare, Jetsun Tsang Nyon, Jetun U Nyon, Jetsun Drukpa Kunley. They are no tourist and sometimes not even locals so Ralung monastery is one of the most peaceful monasteries with beautiful landscape.

Then along the Friendship southern Hwy drive to Gyantse, visit the famous stupa - Gyantse Kumbum, one of the most stunning architectural wonders in Tibet. Late afternoon drive to Shigatse via visiting Shalu monastery, which has one of the best wall painting in Tibet.

Day 04: Lhasa / Yamdrok Lake [4,441m] / Gyantse [3,980m] / Shigatse [3,840m], 360KM, 7hrs (B)

Day 05: Shigatse / Namtso Lake [4,700m], 420Km, Around 7-8hours Drive (B)


After breakfast then drive to Nyemo valley to see nomads and farmers and nature, No tourist (this will be highlight for the day so you can spend lots of time and then drive to Yangpachen hot spring pool and you can decide to go in or not by paying entrance fees directly at there and drive to Damxung, on the way you will see Mt. Tanggu-la (7500m) and drive through grasslands to Namtso lake, “Heavenly Lake.” Before getting to the lake we will drive through the (Largen la pass (5200m) see the view of the lake from far and then still drive about 35km and we will reach the Lake. On the way, we will see Nomads around Namtso lake and stay overnight at a lake for sunset, sunrise, and stars at the night.

You will see the sunrise at Namtso Lake, walk a little bit along the lakeside,  afternoon drive back to Lhasa, happy nomads family dwelled their cozy yak wool tent on the grassy pastures and some close to the road are visitable for having a new experience, before reaching Lhasa the fertile valleys are nice looking with villages and their orthogonal fields.
