Our Tibet travel Day 2 begins with a warm pickup from the Tibetan tour guide at the hotel. We will walk to Barkhor Street and visit the Jokhang Temple, where you’ll witness the devotion of thousands of pilgrims who travel vast distances—sometimes over a thousand kilometers on foot—to pay their respects at this sacred site.

The temple itself, with its rich history dating back 1,400 years to the 7th century, houses the precious statue of Buddha Shakyamuni at the age of 12, adding to its spiritual and historical allure.

Followed by our travel to the Potala Palace. This monumental structure, which boasts over a thousand rooms, is celebrated for its remarkable architecture and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As visitors ascend the palace steps and explore its most significant rooms, they will cultivate a profound appreciation for its historical importance and the essential role it occupies within Tibetan culture.

After experiencing the spiritual ambiance of Jokhang and Potala Palace, you will proceed to the magnificent monastery complex of Sera. Renowned for its architectural splendor, Sera has been in existence for six centuries and is famous for the lively and engaging philosophical debates conducted by the monks.

Observing these debates provides a dynamic insight into Buddhist teachings and practices, underscoring the monks’ profound understanding and vibrant intellect. Following our visit to Sera, we shall return to the hotel for rest. You may explore the streets and markets of Lhasa at your leisure.

The exhilarating Tibet Travel adventure begins as we set off on our journey, driving westward to reach the magnificent and sprawling landscapes of the second-largest city in Tibet. Our route takes us across the breathtaking heights of Kampa-la Pass, standing tall at 4797 meters above sea level, where the crisp mountain air invigorates our senses.

Following this, we traverse the majestic Karo-la Pass, which rises even higher at 5050 meters, revealing stunning views of the majestic Mt. Noijin Kangsang, a formidable peak towering at 7206 meters. Nestled closely along our path, we pass by the awe-inspiring glacier that beckons with its icy beauty.

As we make our way through this stunning terrain, we take a moment to pause and marvel at the surreal turquoise waters of the holy lake Yamdrok-Tso, a tranquil spot that captivates our hearts with its striking color and spiritual significance. As we make our way through the mesmerizing landscape, our journey takes us to the charming town of Gyantse, a place rich in culture and history. Here, we have the opportunity to explore the renowned Kumbum Stupa, located within the sacred grounds of Pelkor Chode Monastery.

After immersing ourselves in Gyantse's rich heritage, we continue our journey, driving 350 kilometers before arriving in Shigatse, just in time for a delightful dinner that rounds off a day of exploration and discovery. (350km) [3900m]

Our Tibet Travel journey to New Tingri promises not only a remarkable destination but also breathtaking experiences along the way. As we cross the high pass of Gyatso La, at an impressive elevation of 5220 meters, we'll have the incredible opportunity to catch our first glimpse of the magnificent Mt. Everest and the vast expanse of the Himalayas. This moment is sure to etch itself in our memories forever.

Continuing, we will also drive through the stunning Gawula Pass, which reaches an elevation of 5200 meters. The views here are nothing short of spectacular as we witness the towering presence of five majestic mountains that soar above 8000 meters. Among these giants are the renowned Mount Everest, Mount Makalu, Mount Cho Oyu, Mount Lhotse, and Mount Shishapangma.

Each of these peaks holds a unique allure, and the sight of them against the backdrop of the sky will undoubtedly take our breath away and ignite our passion for adventure and exploration. Following your visit to Gawu La, the next leg of your journey will take you to the bustling Tashizom town. As you arrive, you will switch to an eco-friendly bus, which reflects a commitment to sustainable travel practices.

This bus will take you on a scenic route to Rongphu, renowned as the world's highest monastery, precariously perched just under 5000 meters above sea level. From this remarkable perspective, you will be treated to a breathtaking view of Mount Everest, an experience that promises to be one of the standout highlights of your entire expedition. 

It is noteworthy that the distance from Pelber to the Everest region spans a considerable 100 kilometers, typically taking around four hours to cover. In total, your adventure may amount to a distance of approximately 360 kilometers, with an elevation of around 4400 meters, ensuring that your expedition is filled with both challenge and wonder.

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you will have the unique opportunity to witness the breathtaking sunrise at Everest Base Camp. Watching the sun slowly rise over the majestic peaks of the Himalayas is unforgettable.

Following this awe-inspiring moment, you will embark on a scenic drive back to Lhasa, retracing the route from Gawu La Pass. Along this journey, you will be treated to stunning views of the Himalayan range once again, providing numerous photo opportunities.

Feel free to pause at any notable points along the journey to fully appreciate the beauty of the landscape. En route, we will have the option to visit the Sakya Monastery, the principal monastery of the Sakyapa school within Tibetan Buddhism.

Your journey in Tibet will conclude with an overnight stay in the picturesque city of Shigatse, located at an elevation of 3,840 meters. The driving distance will be approximately 340 kilometers, and it is expected to take around 6 to 7 hours to complete the journey.

Today marks the second-to-last day of our Tibet travel journey. We will take a scenic drive through the Shug La Pass, reaching an elevation of 5,411 meters, which is the highest point of our Tibet travel adventure.

Along the way, we’ll admire the stunning views of Mount Jomo Gangkar, standing at 7,048 meters, in a region renowned for its magnificent landscapes. This area is home to nomadic communities and dedicated farmers who have lived in harmony with nature for generations.

Unlike typical tourist spots, Shug La Pass provides an authentic glimpse into high-altitude landscapes featuring white snow-capped mountains, verdant rivers, and the tranquil lives of farmers, nomads, and vast grasslands, making it a vital highlight of the day.

After this, we will head back to Lhasa for an overnight stay in the heart of the old town. Today’s driving distance is approximately 300 kilometers, taking about six hours.

We plan to depart Shigatse around 9-10 am and arrive at our hotel in Lhasa around 3-4 pm. We'll enjoy some relaxing time at the Hot Spring during the summer, from May to October, making the most of this beautiful Tibet tour experience.

Today, we say a bittersweet goodbye! We recommend scheduling your flights or train departures for the late afternoon. This way, you can enjoy a relaxing morning in Lhasa. It’s a perfect opportunity to explore the vibrant local market or take a lovely stroll along charming Baker Street. Spending some time soaking in the city’s rich culture in the morning will genuinely enhance your travel experience.
