8 Day Tibet to Nepal Border Journey

Are you ready for an overland adventure from Tibet to the Nepal border? Join our 8-day Group Tour from Lhasa to Mount Everest base camp and the Nepal border, where you'll experience Tibet's stunning beauty and rich culture. We'll take you to all the foremost Buddhist sites in town, including Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery, and the awe-inspiring Potala Palace.

Then, prepare for a scenic drive to Shigatse, where you'll pass by the breathtaking Yamdrok Lake, Karo La Glacier, and the Gyantse Kumbum Stupa. But the real highlight of the tour is the trip to the North Face Base Camp of Mt. Everest, where you'll get an up-close view of the world's highest peak from the base camp and Gawula Pass!

Afterward, we'll head to Old Tingri to see more stunning views of the Himalayas before driving to the Kyirong Border. Along the way, you'll notice the magnificent Shishapangma Mountain (8012M) and Phikutso Lake. And finally, we'll travel to Nepal. Day1. Lhasa Arrival (3700M)

Upon arrival in Lhasa, you will be welcomed by your English-speaking Tibetan Guide and Tibetan Driver, who will bring you to your hotel. Acclimatization to high altitude: Please drink lots of water and get plenty of rest to minimize altitude sickness.

Overnight at the 4-star Shambhala Hotel or Gold-star Shambhala Palace, located in the heart of Lhasa city, 100 meters from Jokhang Temple.

Day2. Lhasa Tour with Local Guide (3700M)

In Lhasa (3700m), we explore the Jokhang Temple, bet, the surrounding Bharkor bazaar, and the most sacred monastery in Tithe's bustling Lhasa market. In the afternoon, we go to Sera Monastery to watch the monks debate in a centuries-old manner.

Day3. Lhasa Tour with Local Guide (3700M)

In Lhasa (3700m), we tour the Potala Palace, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama, built in the 17th century by the fifth Dalai Lama, and Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, made in the 18th century by the seventh Dalai Lama.

Day4. Lhasa–Yamdrok Lake - Gyantse - Shigatse (360km - 3900M)

Morning drive up to Kampala pass [4794m], you will have a glimpse of Yamdrok-Tso and spectacular views of Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar in the distance; the turquoise-colored Lake Yamdrok Yutso is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, the unforgettable vista of the pincer-shaped turquoise water of the lake and fantastic spectacle of Mt. Nyenchen Khangsar glacier from Karo la pass is wonders of the day. 

Then, along the Friendship Southern Hwy drive to Gyantse, visit the famous stupa - Gyantse Kumbum, one of Tibet's most stunning architectural wonders. Late afternoon drive to Shigatse via visiting Shalu monastery, which has one of the best wall paintings in Tibet.

Day5. Shigatse–Sakya Monastery-Pelber (New Tingri) (290km - 4400M)

After breakfast, we visited the Tashilhunpo Monastery to see the future Buddha’s golden shrine. The Tashilhunpo Monastery is the seat of the Panchen Lama, the 2nd highest in the Tibetan Buddhist religious hierarchy. We leave Shigatse and drive to Shegar across Tsou-la Pass (4500m) and Gyatso-la Pass (5220m); with good weather, you can see your first views of Mt. Everest. At the end of the day’s 230km journey, we arrive in the evening at Pelber (New Tingri) (4300m).

Shigatse Tashilhunpo Monastery

Day6. Pelber–Rongbuk Monastery- Everest Base Camp (100km - 5200M

On the scenic drive from Pelber to Mount Everest Base Camp, we will cross the Gawu la Pass( 5200M) and see the view of 4 mountains above 8000M plus, such as Mt. Lhotse (8516), Mt. Everest ( 8848M), Mt. Cho-Oyo (8201M), and Mt.Makalu ( 8463M) 

From Gawu La, you will then go to Tashizom town, where you will change your vehicle to a nonpollution bus and reach Rongphu, the highest monastery in the world at just under 5000 meters in elevation. The iconic view of Everest from here will be a high point of your journey! 

You will then continue to the Tent Hotels, which operate from mid-April through mid-October. The driving distance from Pelber to the Everest area is 100 kilometers, with a driving time of around 4 hours.

Gawu la pass

Day7. Rongbuk Monastery–Kyirong Town (280km - 3800M)

We are enjoying Mount Everest under the stars in the night. This morning after sunset at Mount Everest, we drive to Kyirong, crossing over Lalung-la Pass at (5,050m) and taking in beautiful panoramas of the Himalayan Range, including Mt. Everest (8,848m).

On the way, we will pass by Phikutso Lake and see the view of Mt. Shishapangma ( 8201M), the mountain above 8000M fully planted in Tibet. After arriving in Kyirong, Travelers will have a rest day and prepare for border crossing the next day.

Mount Everest North Face with Moon

Day8. Kyirong Town / Nepal Border / Rasuwa Gadhi / Kathmandu (180km - 2600M)

After breakfast, drive from Kyirong town to the border checkpoint, 25 km, by applying for a Nepal visa upon arrival and crossing the border on foot to Rasuwa Gadhi. Our Travel agent partner in Nepal will be waiting at the border with a private jeep for Travelers and travel to Kathmandu. 

There is around 150 km from Rasuwa Gadhi to Kathmandu, but because of the bad road conditions, travel duration via private vehicle is about 6-7 hours.

On the Nepali side, you can apply for your Nepal visa on arrival: 25/40/110USD for a 15/30/90 Days visa.
