There is a train service that runs daily from Xining to Tibet, and I have personally found this train ride to be very comfortable. The train comes equipped with great air conditioning and large windows that allow passengers to take in the breathtaking natural scenery along the way.

Lanzhou is another ideal city to travel to Tibet by train, with a moderate duration of the journey. In peak seasons, it may be difficult for travelers to secure train tickets from Xining to Lhasa, but taking a train from the nearby city of Lanzhou is a viable alternative.

3. How to buy Tibet Train Tickets?

Soft sleeper tickets may be hard to come by during peak season, so we advise travelers to have a backup plan, such as a hard sleeper or flight to Tibet. 4. Is there a train from Lhasa to Shigatse?

There are three types of tickets available - Soft sleeper costing approximately 170RMB, hard sleeper costing 112RMB, soft seat costing around 83 RMB, and hard seat costing around 40RMB. I opted for the stern seat and found it to be perfectly fine for the 2-and-a-half-hour journey. While enjoying the scenic beauty en route, I finally reached Shigatse train station, which is located about 10 minutes away from the city of Shigatse.

The train departs from Lhasa at 8:30 am and offers stunning views of the Yarlung Tsangpo and other beautiful natural scenery. We made stops at Chushul Town, Nyemo Town, and Rinpung Town along the way. The best part of the train ride is the short duration, only two and a half hours, compared to the five-hour journey by vehicle.

5. Is there a train from Lhasa to Nyingchi?

One of the luxurious trains available is the newly opened Lhasa to Nyingchi route, which passes through Tsetang. I have personally experienced this train and found it to be comfortable. The journey takes approximately four hours, during which we will make stops at Tsetang, as well as pass through Gyatsa town, Nang town, and Miling town. The natural surroundings along the way are absolutely breathtaking.

6. What are the alternatives to train tickets?
