How to travel from Hong Kong to Tibet?

For Hongkong ID with Home Return Permit holder, you won't need the Tibet Travel Permit to travel in Tibet but If you plan to travel to Mount Everest North Face Base Camp, Mount Kailash, or Kyirong Nepal border, you will need the border permit, Which is known as Tong Xing Zhang 通行证 Which can be obtained by the Tibet Travelers from the military office in Lhasa with your Original Hongkong ID card and Home Return Permit. 

For all the Travelers who are planning to travel to Tibet from Hongkong, traveling with a direct flight from Hongkong to Lhasa, Tibet is expensive.

Tibet Travelers recommend 2 different options to travel from Hongkong to Tibet.

1. Taking a train or bus to Shenzhen and to Guangzhou. From Guangzhou to Lhasa, they are 2 different options for travel to Tibet, by train to Lhasa or by flight to Lhasa. The price of the flight is also much lower as compared to the direct flight from Hongkong. 

Train from Guangzhou to Lhasa

The time duration of the train ride from Guangzhou to Lhasa is 53 hours 20 minutes. The most popular train is the train number Z264

Hard Sleeper cost: 865 RMB Per ticket

Hard Seat cost:  447 RMB Per ticket

Train tickets must be bought in advance around 25-30 days before the departure. You can buy these tickets from Chinese App (订票助手）or Tibet Travelers will help to buy the train ticket for you with some service fee.

Flight from Guangzhou to Lhasa

They are both direct flights from Guangzhou to Lhasa or connecting flights from Chengdu or other cities.
