Overseas Citizen of India (OCI): This is a lifelong visa and residency status granted to persons of Indian origin (PIOs) holding foreign passports.

Currently, nearly 50 nations have a 30-day visa-free travel agreement with China, including travel days in Tibet. (OCIs) Overseas Citizens of India holding passports from these countries can readily travel to Tibet using their passports. We will facilitate the issuance of the Tibet travel permit by requiring your passport scans and Tibet tour confirmation.

The best way to travel from the US or Europe to Tibet is to fly to either Beijing or Chengdu in China, then stay 1-2 days to acclimatize. This preliminary adjustment is recommended because traveling directly to Tibet from Europe with a layover can be excessively strenuous due to the altitude of Lhasa at 3650 meters.

Travelers can book flights to Chinese cities from the official Air China website, and we can assist with purchasing discounted tickets from Chinese cities to Tibet.

Another alternative is to travel by train from Chinese cities to Lhasa. We can help you book tickets. The most convenient routes are from Chengdu to Lhasa (34 hours) or from Xining to Lhasa (23 hours).

In Hinduism, Kailash is regarded as the abode of Lord Shiva, making it a premier destination and a cherished aspiration for Indian travelers.

Indian tourists can definitely travel to Tibet. The main requirements are obtaining a Tibet Travel Permit and either joining a tour group or arranging a private tour. For common Tibet visits, such as to Mount Everest Base Camp, Namtso Lake, or Lhasa, our Tibetan travel agency can secure the Tibet travel permit once you have your Chinese visa from the Chinese Embassy.

Indian travelers planning to visit Mount Kailash and Manasarovar Lake must book their Tibet trip through the Pilgrim Center, not a standard local travel agency. To organize a Tibet tour, contact the Foreign Affairs Office of TAR or the Tibet-India Pilgrim Reception Center.

The Foreign Affairs Office of TAR is a government entity, while the Pilgrim Center is a non-governmental organization. No other agencies are authorized to handle Indian visits to Ngari. Alternatively, you can arrange your Mount Kailash tour via a Nepal or Indian travel agency that partners with the Foreign Affairs Office and Pilgrim Center.

The optimal route for traveling to Tibet from India involves an overland journey from India to Nepal, followed by another overland transfer from Nepal to the Tibetan border at Kyirong, culminating in a Tibet tour to Mount Kailash. Additionally, some Indian travelers opt to enter Tibet via the Hilsa border near Purang town, which is considerably closer to Mount Kailash at approximately 150 kilometers.

We had an amazing experience traveling through Tibet, organized by Mr. Tenzin, with Gesang as our Guide and Lakba as our driver. Tenzin, who met us in Chengdu to handover our Tibet permit, walked us through the entire itinerary very well.

We spent two days in Lhasa before road-tripping all the way to Everest Base Camp, where we were then dropped off at the Nepal border for a smooth onward journey. Lakba was an excellent driver he drove smoothly and safely throughout the trip and always made sure we reached each destination comfortably and on time.

Gesang was with us for the entire week and was incredibly knowledgeable. He taught us so much about Tibetan history, culture, and Buddhist traditions, especially at the monasteries we visited. He explained the meaning behind the rituals, prayer flags, prayer wheels, and Buddhist symbols, which made each visit much more meaningful. He also recommended great places to visit and eat in the evenings that suited us perfectly.
