5. Tibet Travel Reviews on Google Maps
This trip could not have been as successful without Tenzin’s excellent coordination behind the scenes and Gelek’s knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication throughout the journey. We would also like to thank our driver, whose name we unfortunately cannot remember how to spell, for the long hours spent safely transporting us between cities and locations. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially when it came to loading and unloading our luggage.
Gelek was particularly knowledgeable when introducing us to the religious history and lore of Tibet. He always did his best to explain everything in English during our visits to the temples and monasteries, making the experience much more meaningful and informative for us.
There were some initial changes to our trip due to the train schedule from Chengdu to Lhasa changing from odd-numbered days to even-numbered days, which meant we had to make the difficult decision to shorten our time in Tibet by one day. Tenzin responded promptly with an alternative itinerary that allowed us to shorten the trip without any material changes to our planned activities. He also continued trying to secure accommodation at Rongbuk Monastery despite being told that it was fully booked, and ultimately succeeded in getting us what we understand was the best available accommodation at EBC.

Unfortunately, I was unable to join the group for the journey to EBC due to a medical incident and had to remain in Shigatse. We were at the hospital until very late that night. Even then, Gelek and Tenzin took the time to discuss how best to make arrangements for us and suggested activities that we could enjoy while staying in Shigatse. Gelek continued to check on us before departing for EBC with the rest of the team, which we greatly appreciated.

Tenzin also arranged an extension of our hotel stay and informed the hotel staff to assist us in Gelek and the team’s absence. The agency went one step further by thoughtfully arranging for the hotel to send us a “get-well” fruit basket, while also celebrating the group’s successful arrival at EBC. It was such a warm and heartfelt gesture, especially at a difficult and unexpected moment in our trip.

Overall, we are very grateful to Tenzin, Gelek, our driver, and the entire team for their care, flexibility, and dedication. Their efforts went far beyond simply organising a trip—they made sure we were looked after, even when circumstances changed unexpectedly. We truly appreciate everything they did for us.

Tips for travelers: Do proper preparation for high altitude acclimatization. At the end of the day, you know your body best.
