Summary of the Tibet Tour
During this Tibet Travel adventure, the main highlights were Mount Kailash and Manasarovar Lake (Mapham Yumtso). 2026 is the Year of the Horse, and the horse is the zodiac sign of Mount Kailash.
First Highlights: When travelers reach Mount Kailash in late April, the Kora trek isn't accessible due to heavy snow at the Drolma La pass. Therefore, we stayed a night in Darchen to gain extra time in the area. Despite this, we still received the mountain's blessing thanks to the good weather, as evidenced by the beautiful Tibet travel photos included here.

Initially, our travelers visited Lake Manasarovar, also known as Mapham Yumtso in Tibetan. The lake was frozen at the time of their visit. It is considered one of the sacred lakes in Tibet, and we circumambulated the lake by vehicle to obtain a better view.

Second Highlights: One highlight was traveling to the Guge Kingdom in western Tibet, visiting the town of Tada, and exploring Toling Monastery. It turned out to be a truly memorable experience, giving us the chance to take stunning photos of Tibet, especially of the Blue Sheep that roam near the monastery.

Third Highlights: Another highlight of the Tibet trip is the Mount Everest base camp, the highest mountain on the planet, and one of the most popular travel destinations in Tibet. Our travelers reached the Mount Everest base camp with relative ease, as it is situated at 5200 meters. We also experienced favorable weather conditions during the Tibet tour to Mount Everest base camp. Therefore, we recommend traveling to Tibet in April for clear, favorable weather.
Alternatively, we offer six Tibet tour options to Mount Everest Base Camp: a 7-day Tibet tour to Everest Base Camp, an 8-day Tibet tour to Everest, a 9-day Tibet tour to Everest Base Camp, and a 10-day tour to Everest Base Camp. Furthermore, if you intend to travel to Nepal following your Tibet journey, we provide an 8-day Tibet travel package to Everest Base Camp and the Nepal border, as well as a 10-day Tibet travel package to the Nepal border.

Fourth Highlights: The fourth section showcased photos from the Tibet tour, including Mount Shishapangma, the only mountain above 8000 meters entirely within the Tibet Autonomous Region. Adjacent to Shishapangma is Phikutso Lake.

Shishapangma Mountain is situated near Phikutso Lake, with yaks grazing nearby as numerous nomads live close to this majestic mountain.
Fifth Highlights: The fifth highlights included photos of nature from the Tibet tour, featuring a day hike to Sera Utse in Lhasa. We have also written a full article about this top Tibet day hike in Lhasa. Snow at Yamdrok Lake and the Karo La Glacier Hike are among the highlights of Tibet's natural scenery.

Sixth Highlights: The final highlights included visits to the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery, Sakya Monastery, Rongbuk Monastery, Gyantse Kumbum Stupa, and numerous other sacred sites in Tibet.

The most favorable vantage point for the Potala Palace is from the square directly in front of it, where visitors can appreciate the Palace's full architectural splendor. It is truly a remarkable highlight of Tibet travel adventures.

We are delighted to receive excellent Tibet travel reviews from our valued travelers.
Our website features two Tibet Tours to Mount Kailash and Manasarovar Lake, similar to this Tibet tour article, including visits to the Guge Kingdom, Toling Monastery, and Mount Everest base camp. This article about Tibet trips is enriched with stunning photographs from Tibet tours, aimed at inspiring travelers planning to visit Tibet. Before we begin the article, let us review the Tibet travel permit and Chinese visa information, as these are the two main documents required to travel to Tibet.
*. Tibet Permit Visa
To travel to Tibet from Chinese cities or Kathmandu, Nepal, travelers need a Chinese visa, which is required to obtain the Tibet travel permit from the tourism office in Tibet. Fifty countries were granted a thirty-day visa-free travel period to China, including travel days in Tibet.
Our travelers flew from Beijing to Lhasa. The flight duration is about four and a half hours, which includes a 1.5-hour refueling stop in Chengdu. Ticket prices vary from roughly $300 to $400, depending on the time of year. Booking in advance can help find better rates. For the best deals, it is advisable to buy tickets directly from the official China Air website.

We can deliver the Tibet travel permit to Beijing airport if you have a layover of about 4 hours. This suits travelers flying from Europe or the US to Beijing, then connecting to Lhasa, Tibet via Chengdu. However, we strongly recommend spending a few days in Beijing to acclimate to the altitude, as quickly reaching Tibet in roughly 20 hours can cause altitude sickness. Some clients have become ill upon arrival in Lhasa due to the high elevation. Travelers might consider staying a day or two in Beijing to visit the Great Wall and other sights, as we have guides available there to assist.

Hello from the Yak! Photo taken on the way during the Tibet Tour.
1. Travel to Tibet Kailash
The primary highlight of this Tibet travel article is the visit to Mount Kailash in the Year of the Horse according to the Tibetan lunar calendar. Given that the Year of the Horse occurs once every twelve years, this occasion holds particular significance for spiritual practitioners.

Mount Kailash is renowned as the center of the world and is a major destination for travelers exploring Tibet.

The Tibet tour vehicle we arrange is a 9-seat Fort minivan. It's the latest vehicle for travelers from all over the world planning to travel to Tibet.

The Chiu Monastery, also known as the Bird Monastery, can be traced back to the 8th century when Master Padmasambhava meditated in the cave. This monastery was reconstructed at a special site near Lake Manasarovar.

Our travelers took a short trip near the Chiu Monastery and Mapham Yumtso Lake in Manasarovar.

2. Tibet Tour Guge Toling
The Guge Kingdom and Toling Monastery were among the highlights of this Tibet tour adventure. The Guge Kingdom is situated 20km from Tada Town and approximately 250 kilometers from Mount Kailash National Park near Darchen Town.

The Guge Kingdom is about 20km from Tada town, also known as Tsanda and Tsaparang in Tibetan. It takes roughly 22 minutes to drive from Tada to the Guge Kingdom.

The Guge Kingdom is a fantastic destination to explore following your trek around Mount Kailash. The kora trek around Mount Kailash reaches its highest point at Drolma La, approximately 5600 meters, with an overall elevation of around 4500 meters.

Tada town sits at an altitude of 3700 meters, similar to Lhasa, making it suitable for travelers with altitude sickness after visiting Mount Kailash.

The Tibet tour journey by vehicle takes approximately four hours. En route, travelers will pass through the distinctive Tibetan landscape of western Ngari.

After exploring the Guge Kingdom, the next highlight is a visit to Toling Monastery, founded in 997 AD by Yeshe O, the second king of Guge.

The Toling monastery offers a tranquil atmosphere and features beautifully preserved Tibetan Buddhist stupas.

There were many colorful stupas in Toling Monastery. Toling is located just inside Tada town, making it a good option for a walk around the monastery.

The colors of these stupas are notably similar to those of the Sakya Monastery, featuring dark blue, white, and red.

These colors represent the three families of Buddha: white for compassion, red for wisdom, and dark blue for power.

Specifically, Buddha Jampelyang symbolizes wisdom and is associated with red; Buddha Chenresig embodies compassion and is associated with white; and Buddha Chakna Dorje signifies power and is associated with dark blue.

The next highlight of the Tibet tour is the breathtaking natural scenery from Tada to Mapham Yumtso Lake, with a pass through the magnificent Himalayan range.

From this Himalayan range, you can admire another majestic mountain, Namo Nani. Mount Namo Nani (also known as Gurla Mandhata, Naimona'nyi, or Namu Nani) is a significant and sacred peak nestled in the western Tibet Ngari Himalayas.

Located in Purang County within Tibet's Ngari Prefecture, it stands just across from the revered Mount Kailash on the shores of the Manasarovar Lake. Rising to an impressive 7,694 meters, it holds the position of the 34th-highest peak in the world.

Western Tibet's Ngari region is renowned for its uniqueness. These mountains are sculpted in beautiful forms.

Our travelers took a short hike near the road on the way to Mapham Yumtso Lake from Tada.

The mountain colors vary, with some looking red, others grey, and most yellowish. In the previous article, we also shared some excellent photos from a family of four’s Tibet trip to Western Ngari in July 2025.

The Tibet tour continues from Mapham Yumtso Lake to Saga, passing by one of the large sand dunes in western Ngari, near the town of Drongpa.
3. Travel to Tibet, Mt. Everest
The second highlight of the travel to Tibet adventure is the view of Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain at 8848 meters, from the base camp at an elevation of 5200 meters.

Photo: The sign marking Mount Everest's height of 8848.86 meters at the base camp in Tibet during the trip.

Approximately 90 kilometers prior to reaching the Mount Everest base camp, our journey will traverse the Gawula Pass, renowned for its scenic vistas in Tibet.

The official designation of this pass is Kyu Wu Kha Pass, situated at an elevation of 5198 meters.

From this magnificent vantage point in Tibet, we are able to observe five mountains exceeding 8,000 meters in elevation, including Mount Everest.

- Mount Everest (8848.86 meters, 29031ft)
- Mount Makalu (8463 meters, 27825ft)
- Mount Lhotse (8516meters, 27940ft)
- Mount Cho Oyu (8188 meters, 26906 ft) and finally
- Mount Shishapangma (8027 meters, 26289ft)

Photo: The stunning view of Mount Everest and the fourth-highest Mount Cho Oyu.
4. Shishapangma Phikutso Lake
The only mountain exceeding 8000 meters entirely within Tibet is Mount Shishapangma, at 8,012 meters elevation. Shishapangma stands at 8,027 meters (26,335 ft) in the Tibetan Himalayas and ranks as the 14th highest mountain worldwide.

It is also the lowest of the world's 8,000-meter peaks and the only one entirely within Chinese borders.

Many nomadic yaks graze near this massive mountain.

Shishapangma Mountain is located near Phikutso Lake. We will traverse Phikutso Lake during the journey from Mount Everest Base Camp to either Kyirong or Saga town.
5. Travel to Tibet Hike Nature
During this Tibet tour, our travelers took a day hike in Lhasa. This Tibet travel hike is considered one of the premier hiking experiences in Tibet for visitors. We recommend this hike to any travelers who enjoy hiking but have limited time in Tibet. The hike will take one day in Lhasa; it begins with a morning departure from the hotel, followed by a transfer to Pabonka Monastery on a hill in Lhasa.

From Pabonka Monastery, the Tibet hike commences. A comprehensive article on this one-day hike in Tibet has been written for our detailed Tibet trip guide. Not only was the hike the highlight, but we also had some beautiful scenic nature from the Tibet tour to share with all travelers.

The Blue Sheep, known as Na in Tibetan, roams the Ngari grasslands. It is called Bharal in English and also referred to as na or nawa.

The donkey species in Western Tibet’s Ngari Prefecture is known as the Kiang (Equus kiang), or the Tibetan Wild Ass. These wild animals wander through the beautiful natural landscapes of Ngari.

The hiking trail from Karo La Glacier was covered in beautiful white snow.

Karo La Glacier was a highlight of the Tibet trip, from Yamdrok Lake to Gyantse town.

Our travelers undertook this hike at an altitude of 5200 meters to witness the breathtaking beauty of Karo La Glacier. The hike is estimated to take approximately two hours one way.

The town surrounding Yamdrok Lake was blanketed in snow during the trip to Tibet, creating a serene and picturesque scene.

Yamdrok Lake, also called Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, is about 90km from Lhasa, a scenic 2-hour drive away. During our visit, it was snowing, adding a magical touch to the experience.

Our Tibetan tour guide took some lovely photos, including one of a Yak and birds flying gracefully near the lake, making the moment even more special.
6. Tibet Tour Spiritual Sites
During their Tibet travel adventure, the first spiritual sites our traveler visited in Lhasa were the Jokhang Temple, Potala Palace, Sera Monastery, and Norbulingka Palace.

One of the highlights of the Tibet tour is the Potala Palace, built in the 7th century. It is a must-see attraction for all travelers in Tibet. The weather was favorable on the day of our visit, with a clear blue sky.

From this viewpoint near Chakpori Hill, the view of Potala Palace is even more breathtaking.

In front of the Potala Palace, there is a small lake that enhances its beauty. It's a great place for a walk before or after visiting the Palace during your trip to Tibet.

Since our travelers spent a night in Gyantse, the next highlight of the Tibet trip is the evening view of Gyantse Dzong.

Our travelers visited the Gyantse Kumbum Stupa, one of the most beautiful and largest stupas in Tibet, featuring 100,000 wall paintings of Buddhas.

These paintings enhance the majesty of the seven-story structure.

Inside these charming chapels of the Gyantse Kumbum Stupa, you'll discover the finest Tibetan art, filled with a warm, positive energy that welcomes you.

The weather was ideal, and our travelers valued the sight of Gyantse City, including the Dzong, Palkor Chode Monastery, and Kumbum Stupa, rendering it one of the most remarkable aspects of our Tibet tour experience.

Our travelers spend a full day in Shigatse city exploring the Tashilhunpo Monastery and its surroundings.

The view of Shigatse city from the backside of Tashilhunpo monastery during the Tibet trip.

Tashilhunpo Monastery is one of the largest in Shigatse and a highlight of Tibet tour adventures.

Photo of Locals taken outside the Tashilhunpo Monastery during the Tibet tour to Shigatse.

The full-day visit to Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse was a special choice for the Tibet tour itinerary.

From Gyantse, after a 90km drive, our travelers arrived in Shigatse and then traveled another 150km to Sakya town. The impressive walls of Sakya Monastery and the spiritual beauty continued to captivate.

Sakya Monastery, the main monastery of the Sakyapa, is a vibrant part of the ancient Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The visit was truly special because there were fewer tourists around, which our travelers really appreciated. They had a wonderful experience and loved exploring this historic site.

Photo: Rongbuk Monastery, located near Mount Everest Base Camp, is one of the highest monasteries on the Tibet adventure trip.

During the journey from Sakya to Pelber, our travelers pause briefly for a short walk. The total distance between Sakya and Pelber town is approximately 140 km, and the journey is expected to take around 3 to 4 hours.

We experienced a beautiful snowfall during our journey from Yamdrok Lake to Karo La Glacier. We would like to conclude the presentation of captivating photos from our remarkable Tibet tour, shared by our two esteemed travelers. In Tibetan culture, snowfall is regarded as a blessing from the heavens, and we wish them continued blessings filled with love and care.
These are the exceptional photographs from our esteemed travelers' journey to Tibet in April 2026. We wish to express our gratitude to our two distinguished individuals for traveling with us and for granting us the opportunity to capture these precious memories, which will endure for a considerable time and foster positivity among travelers planning future visits to Tibet. 7. Tibet Travel Reviews
I do not usually leave reviews online, but given the quality of the service provided by Tenzin and his team, we had to find a way to thank them! My wife and I set off on a fifteen-day private trip through Tibet, with the aim of reaching Mount Kailash and the ancient Kingdom of Guge, and, if the weather conditions allowed, attempting the circumambulation around the sacred mountain.
We felt as though we were at the heart of a small expedition. Tenzin, Geleg, and Wangdui always did everything they could to give us room to improvise, to let us explore, and to adapt or modify our plans according to the unexpected turns that are part of the charm of such a journey. Thank you for everything!
