Travel to Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, China from other cities in China

1. Book the trip to Tibet two months in advance.
2. Apply for a China visa from the Chinese Embassy.
3. Apply for Tibet Travel Permit from the tourism office in Lhasa, Tibet through Tibet Travelers travel agency.
4. Buy the flights to China & buy the flights or train to Tibet through Tibet Travelers travel agency.
5. Meet the Tibet Travelers staff at the Lhasa train station or airport and start the tour.

Book your trip to Tibet two months in advance so we have enough time to apply for a China visa and Tibet Travel Permit.

China visa and Tibet Travel Permit are the two main documents required to travel to Tibet. Check out our article on how to get a China visa.

To get the Tibet Travel Permit, Travelers must need a China visa. (a Tibet Visa does not exist as the Tibet Autonomous Region is part of China). Travelers must apply for a China visa from the Chinese Embassy in larger cities of your country. Applying for a China visa from the Chinese Embassy in your home country will take around 2-3 weeks. Japan and Singapore nationals will have 15 days free China visa. Here is the article on how to get a China visa from the Chinese Embassy. 

The information and documents required to apply for a Tibet Travel Permit are:

1. A scan of the passport and China visa.
2. Confirmation of the tour entry date, exit date, and travel destinations in Tibet.
3. Deposit 100 US Dollars through Paypal.

We will need clear scans of passports and a China visa to get the Tibet travel permit from the tourism office in Lhasa. 

Flights to Tibet from cities in China 

Travelers will need the original Tibet Travel Permit to board the flight to Tibet, so we usually mail the Tibet Travel Permit to a hotel in China. We request Travelers stay a night in China in a hotel near the airport to pick up the original Tibet Travel Permit.

Trains to Tibet from cities in China 

Travelers will only need the scans of the Tibet Travel Permit and name list to board the train into Tibet from China. We will send the scans of the Tibet Travel Permit by Email.

We request Travelers print the scans of the Tibet Travel Permit and the name list ( 2 papers ) best in color or black and white to pick up the train tickets and board the train into Tibet.
